Default Scam-Bots and Anti-Farm

hey.. i have seen these 2 phrases pasted everywhere on guru and in the game. I know anti farm affects people farming and drops ect but im not exactly sure what it is..
also, i think scam-bots are from mass scamming groups out to make money ingame and sell it on Ebay..

im not quite sure so can anyone help?

Well, supposedly if you "farm" an area repeatedly, some "anti-farming" code kicks in and your drops go down considerably for that area.

I have read interviews from GW they have no problem with players farming. I have heard about the farm code thing, personally I havent seen it. And I have one spot I farm 2-3 times a week, its not a spot known for gold drops but I get some good stuff there. Anyways I have never gotten the farm code personally. As for bots they (Anet) do keep an eye out for bots and have been to known to suspend or even terminate a account for this

There is no such thing as a Scam-Bot. A bot in this instance is a computer program which plays GW repetatively with little or no supervision, aiming to complete the same farming run over and over again as quickly as possible.

A scam is where someone tricks you, usually taking advantage of people's lack of experience and or attention to detail. You can report scammers to ANet, look in Savio's FAQ thread at the top of this forum.

Anti-farm is an automated system implemented by ANet to reduce the efficieny of repetative farming in a single spot. Farming repeatedly in one location causes the monsters' drops to rapidly decrease in quality and quantity. Human players can adapt to this using a real world method known as Nomadicism.

There's a theory going around as well if there's a lot of players farming one area, the overall quality of loot would drop for everyone, and better drops from areas where only few people are farming.. Just a myth?

I think that level of area-wide Drop-nerfing is done maually by ANet.

I believe there is some automatic anti-farming in effect as well. Someone posted a pic of the help tip that pops up in game telling them about the effect of farming and area the other day.

Yeap, the automatic system darkMishkin mentioned about few posts above. It pops a hint about 'killing these monsters over and over again makes them drop less stuff', obviously since they don't get enough time to ask more gold from Monster's Fund and buy more stuff to carry.

I'm sure glad to see someone post an accurate definition of a bot. I've seen other postings on this site where people seem to use the word to mean any person who works for a commercial farm operation. A human is not a "bot" is not robotic software.

Some - heck many - farm operations do use bots that are supervised by human operators. But those who simply farm in person, even if they do it commercially, are not bots.
